The obelisk of Montecitorio square, of 21.79 meters, 29 meters from the
base   to   the   globe   and  230 tons, was  raised  in  dinasty  XXVI,  by
                  PSAMETICO II in Heliopolis.
During the winter solstice, when  it  was  in  Heliopolis, the  shade  of the
obelisk reached specifically to a placed stone after it,opposite of the same
                  one.
Like  the  Flaminian obelisk  in  the square of the Popolo, this obelisk was
erected  in  Rome in year 10 to commemorar the victory of  the  Augusto
over Egypt, it was located in the  Mars   Field  by  several  years, not  far
from its present  location, dedicated to the Sun, on a granite pedestal with
an inscription referring to that emperator, between the ara Pacis Augustae
and  the  columna Antonini Pii, was thrown  down  and  broken  at  some
unknown date, and not discovered until 1512, was excavated in 1748 but
recently  in  the 18 century, in  june 14, 1792 the Pope Pio VI,  relocated
in the Montecitorio square, in front of the building of the Parliament, with
a bronze globe the stop, by  where  the  rays  of  the  sun cross and mark
notches in paviment of the square, make it again like a solar sun.
By the way this implement don´t show to work very well.
The obelisk has since been restored again, in 1966.
